The Donning of the Apron

I often say I live my life in an apron. As I donned the apron today, I was reminded of how every morning I should be donning myself with the likeness of Christ. In Ephesians 4:22-24 it says:  22that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
Laying aside the old self and putting on the new self. If it was only as easy as putting on my blue and white gingham apron. Well, I am finding it is so much easier said than done especially with family. Sometimes we are kinder and way more patient with strangers than we are with our own family. I believe you can preach a better sermon with your life than with your lips. With that said, I should feel and act as if my most important sermon is the life I live out loud in front of my husband and children on a daily basis. Ephesians 5:1-2 says: 1Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children;  2and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. So if I am going to talk the talk with my family, than I need to walk the walk.  I pray dear Lord that when I am donning my apron let it be a wonderful reminder daily that I should be donning the new self and leaving the old self behind.
I pray the Father's love surrounds you today like a comfortable, well worn apron.

Today's recipe:
Banana Applesauce Bread(makes 1 loaf)
1 1/2 cups Flour ( I use a mix of equal parts Organic Whole Wheat Flour and Organic All Purpose Flour)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter, melted
3 medium ripe bananas, mashed
1/2 cup applesauce
1 egg, slightly beaten
cooking spray to coat a 9x5 loaf pan

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon in one bowl.
In another bowl combine sugar, melted butter, mashed bananas, applesauce and egg.
Add banana mixture into the flour mixture. Stir together just until the dry ingredients are moistened.
Pour batter into the coated 9x5 loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool in pan for about 10 minutes if you can last that long. Remove from pan and serve warm or place on wire rack and cool for later. I like to double this recipe so I can enjoy one loaf now and cool one for later.

What a delicious way to start the day.
God's word, a good cup of coffee and a slice of banana bread.
